Dead Pedal

The Game

Dead Pedal is an adrenaline-pumping driving and shooting game, taking place in the Mojave desert. You play as John D. Pedal, on a mission to rescue his goldfish, Ted, who was kidnapped by aliens that have drained the world of water.

Armed with a mini-gun, laser cannon, and missile launcher, you have to navigate an open-world desert landscape while taking down enemy vehicles, faction bases, and finally the Great Worm. As you progress through, you’ll be able to upgrade your weapons. While the game follows a narrative, there are plenty of opportunities to explore the open desert and its hidden secrets. You can also customize your vehicles in the garage, creating a car that best suits your aesthetic without compromising your performance stats.

My Work

As the AI programmer for Dead Pedal, I worked on one of the game’s most important features, the enemy AI. Specifically, I worked on developing the algorithm for the enemy vehicles to follow roads using splines and created a chase algorithm with obstacle avoidance that made the enemies more challenging to the player.

In addition to that, I also created certain tools that helped the game designers work on the AI more efficiently. These tools focused weapon selection and collision avoidance, giving the designers greater control over the enemy behavior while sparing them from the technicality of AI.

Overall, I am proud to have contributed to the development of Dead Pedal. From the challenging enemy AI to the open-world design and exciting gameplay mechanics, Dead Pedal is a game that truly has something for everyone.
